Care Initiative

Aims and Objectives

The Joy Bringers Foundation (JBF) Nigeria was founded in July 2011 with a mission to break the cycle of crime through civic education, character training/re-orientation and skill acquisition seminars for inmates at the Correctional Facilities in Nigeria. The Foundation aims to facilitate the reintegration of ex-offenders in society, as well as reduce the rate of recidivism among former inmates.

Beyond character reformation and skill acquisition training, the Foundation’s representatives in the Correctional facilities often encounter inmates with complaints and needs ranging from wrongful detention, poor or no legal representation, inability to pay for legal representation or settle a Court-ordered fine necessary for his freedom, inability to afford a settlement sum proposed by the nominal complainant, etc.

In October 2024, members and notable friends of the Foundation came under the auspices of the Joy Bringers Foundation Care Initiative with the specific aim of assisting indigent inmates who are unable to pay the fines or settlement sums required to secure their release; and are therefore serving jail time in lieu. The Care Initiative is motivated by the understanding that the Correctional Centers are congested for reasons that pales in the face of the corruption of character that prison life implies. The Care Initiative aims to remove genuinely reformed inmates from prison life and set them on a path where they will be of better use to themselves and the society at large.

Over 5000 prison inmates have benefited from the Joy Bringers Character personality re-characterization program. The program has been largely funded by the organization with little or no support from the public.
